    Population: n/a
    Language: Altaic Family, Turkish Branch
    Region: Turkey (Anatolia)

The Yörük originate from Central Asia. They probably moved to Turkish Anatolia from Iran in the eleventh century. Their traditional nomadic life is under pressure in Turkey, which is modernising rapidly. Only a few semi-nomadic families move to the cool Yayla (high planes) in the Taurus Mountains in summer with their goats and sheep. During the winter months, they move to the warmer, southern coastal area.
